The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Champions Tour; and is one of 26 Champions Tour events across the country. The inaugural year of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open was 2007. The event has one of the best fields on Tour which includes Tom Watson, Jay Haas, Nick Price, Peter Jacobsen, Tom Kite, Hale Irwin, Craig Stadler, Fuzzy Zoeller and Ben Crenshaw.

Internship
Interns work under the guidance of tournament staff to assist with various tasks and the special events occurring before and during tournament week. Each intern position is unique; please see job descriptions after the jump for more details.

The work environment is fast-paced and demanding, but interns gain valuable experience in the fields of sports marketing and event management. Dress is business/golf casual. Interns are unpaid, but they are able to receive school credit and we will work with students to meet their school requirements. Interns will have the option to join volunteer sales staff to possibly earn incentives. Interns will learn all the logistics it takes to put on a PGA Champions Tour event and they will be able to network with people to help jump-start their career in the sports industry!

Requirements
-Undergraduate or Graduate Student
-Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
-Must receive school credit

Timeframe
March 1st — August 26st. Interns will be required to work full time including nights and weekends the week before, during and after the tournament. The rest of schedule is very flexible.

Internship Descriptions

Operations Coordinator

Description: This position is responsible for assisting Tournament Staff and Operations Manager with operational duties required on-course and in-office. Intern will be responsible for executing operational tasks for special events before and during tournament week. Also, Intern will be working closely with corporate sponsors gathering information and assisting with sponsorship fulfillment.

Duties include, but not limited to:
-Assisting with all events happening before and during the tournament such as Media Day, Sponsor Appreciation Day, Pro-Am Draw Party, and Volunteer Party.
-Assisting with tournament setup and tear down.
-Work with Operations Manager to execute all delivery and pickup shipments as needed.
-Putting together ticket packages for corporate sponsors.
-Calling corporate sponsors for information as needed.
-Main contact for Exhibition Area during tournament week to make sure all tent vendors’ needs are met.
-Execute operational duties as required for tournament preparation.

Volunteer Coordinator

Description: This position is responsible for managing and coordinating over 1,000 tournament volunteers. Volunteers are very important in the execution of the tournament and this Intern will be responsible for managing and maintaining volunteer database to make sure all events and areas that need volunteers are covered.

Duties include, but not limited to:
-Learning how to use and manage volunteer database to effectively coordinate volunteers.
-Make sure all areas and events associated with tournament that need volunteers are covered.
-Develop new ways to recruit new volunteers.
-Assist volunteers with any questions they may have before or during the tournament.
-Responsible for executing Volunteer Party (registration process, prizes, setup).
-Obtain and organize supplies for each volunteer committee as needed.
