Strolling down Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, North Carolina back on April 19, a buzz was in the air. The front page of The Daily Tar Heel read, “The Final Piece.” Tuesday, April 19th, was the morning after UNC freshman basketball phenom Harrison Barnes announced he would return – along with the team’s other four starters – to Chapel Hill for his sophomore season, making the Heels prohibitive favorites to hoist the walnut & bronze in 2012. Peering into the storefront displays of the many Tar Heel apparel shops on Franklin Street, there – for all to see – hung a basketball jersey boasting the #40. There was no name between the rear shoulders of the jersey, but everyone on the sidewalk knew that come game day, that number belongs to Harrison Barnes…
…and so begins Gavin Cote’s CSBN featured story, “Not-For-Their-Profit”. The senior Sport Media major developed the article based on presentations, panels and interviews during last spring’s College Sport Research Institute Conference hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
